The Minister of State with responsibility for Community Development and Charities, Mr Joe O Brien, T.D., on behalf of the Department of Rural and Community Development, has expressed his condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the late Ronnie Fay, Director of Pavee Point and Chairperson of Community Work Ireland.

Ronnie was a passionate advocate for the most marginalised in Irish society and as part of the cross-sectoral group on Local and Community Development was a key voice in the co-production with DRCD of Sustainable, Inclusive and Empowered Communities, a five-year strategy to support the community and voluntary sector in Ireland.

Minister O Brien said: “I was very saddened to hear of the untimely passing of Ronnie Fay. Ronnie will be remembered for her dedication to a more equal and inclusive Ireland. She gave a voice to the marginalised, unwavering in her commitment to help those experiencing poverty, social exclusion and inequality. In spite of her own challenges, Ronnie advocated with conviction and courage. Her loss will be keenly felt by the very many lives she touched. I wish to offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ronnie at this very difficult time.”
