3 Sligo Sustainable Energy Communities, (Strandhill, Rosses Point and Sligo town) along with Sligo Cycling Campaign are advocating for a protected cycle route the whole way from Strandhill to Rosses Point via Sligo. It would be so liberating for families to be able to cycle out from town for a day at the beach, an ice-cream treat, a swim. The current cycle lanes offer no protection from cars so only experienced bike riders use them. The group organised support ride-outs in July, August and December last year. The biggest turn-out was on a cold but dry December 3rd for a cycle-disco! This surely shows support for a coastal mobility route. We would like to see it included in the upcoming County Development Plan.
The Consultation for the Rosses Point Urban Realm Scheme has just closed. It includes a kilometre of protected cycleway. This could be the start/finish of a Coastal Mobility Route!
We'd love to know what you think of the idea!
