The Cranmore Community Platform set up in 2005 evolved into the legal entity which is now known as the Cranmore Community Co-Operative Society Ltd (Co-op) in 2007. It was set up to ensure that the community had a strong voice in the Cranmore Regeneration Project from the start. To this day is it still managed by a voluntary Board of Management made up of local volunteers. Building a sense of community and a pride of place in relation to Cranmore continues to be at the core of the work of the Cranmore Co-op. Mission Statement: “As the official voice of the Cranmore Community, we work together to empower the people to enhance their quality of life, while liaising with statutory agencies for the provision of facilities and services” Main Aims: • To increase the number of people taking part in quality programmes, which will develop their skills, abilities and confidence to reach their full potential • Provide access to information and relevant services (large social media platform and community newsletter) • Represent the community in negotiating facilities and services • Raise the morale of the community (administer POBAL funded Senior Alarms) • Deliver programmes and events (environment, culture, Family Fun Day, Christmas Tree event, etc.). • Engaging the youth and adult population (Youth Club, camps, etc.) • Facilitate Community Education programmes (cooking, driver theory, gardening, etc) • Provide supports to other community groups (funding applications, etc.) • Provide space for agencies to deliver services in the community i.e. public health nurses, MABS clinic, addiction counsellor, Community Education through Mayo Sligo Leitrim ETB and Sligo Leader Partnership Co Ltd Objectives: • Develop and Support the Youth Services and Volunteers • Ensure the Community Continues to Have a Strong Voice within the Regeneration Process and Sligo PPN • Ensure Representation of all of the community • Ensure Community Co-Op is a stable organisation with an independent funding source capable of responding to community needs • Promote a Positive Sense of Identity • Develop Services and Manage Building in Accordance with Community’s Need. While our work is ongoing the work of the Co-op has provided the residents of Cranmore with the capacity to not just make change within their own lives with skills and education but make a meaningful impact on the lives of their community. The Co-op started out as an advocate and a voice for the community but has evolved into a key service provider and a support to the Community from the cradle to the grave.
