Foróige is Irelands leading youth organisation, working with over 50,000 young people aged 10 – 21 and involving 5,500 adult volunteers through the provision of Volunteer led youth clubs and groups and professional specialised services for disadvantaged young people. The purpose of all our work is to enable young people to involve themselves consciously and actively in their own development and in the development of society. Foróige has over 65 years’ experience in innovative youth development models, programmes and methodologies. Throughout its history Foróige has been to the forefront of youth development and non-formal education in Ireland. We use a ‘learning by doing’ methodology and encourage young people to develop their own abilities and attributes, to think for themselves, to make things happen and to contribute to their community and to society. As a result, they develop greater self-confidence, self-reliance and greater capacity to take charge of their lives. All of Foróige’s Clubs, projects, services and education programmes are designed to achieve this aim. The organisation has a long and highly respected tradition, both nationally and internationally, and has guided generations of young people to lead happier, healthier and more fulfilled lives. Foróige offers a wide range of youth work services to meet the vast array of needs among the young people and communities around Ireland through a combination of volunteer and staff led services. Our professional youth workers adapt existing Foróige activities and programmes to best meet the needs of their group and develop new activities in line with Foróige best practice standards as needs arise.
