Sligo Translators Powwow is a group of translators, linguists and others studying, teaching or interested in languages and poetry in translation, based in and around County Sligo. The group first met on Poetry Day Ireland 2017, to celebrate international poetry in translation: a welcome new opportunity of community, finding points of connection across diverse fields of work, languages and experiences. We hold an annual public event celebrating international poetry and poetry in translation with speakers of many different languages, living in and around Sligo. These speakers include professional poets and others, people who have lived here for many years and newcomers to the county area.
